Acura RLX Versus TLX: A Comparison

Acura RLX Versus TLX: A Comparison

You can’t go wrong with any of Acura’s models, and both the 2020 Acura RLX and the 2020 Acura TLX will serve you well. Nonetheless, there are significant differences between these two sedans that will likely sway you toward one or the other. Here’s an Acura RLX versus TLX breakdown using the latest model years of each car. (Most of what’s said will be applicable if you’re looking at previous years’ versions.)

Performance: RLX Has More Power

Both the 2020 Acura RLX and the 2020 Acura TLX are fun to drive when you’re behind the wheel, and you’re bound to be happy driving either of these luxury sedans. In a battle of the Acura RLX versus TLX, however, the 2020 RLX has the advantage.

The 2020 Acura TLX is termed a “performance luxury sedan,” and it’s pair of engines lives up to that moniker. A standard inline-four delivers 206 horsepower and an available V-6 delivers 290 ponies. With that extra oomph under the hood, few cars can keep up with or pass the 2020 TLX on the road.

One of those few cars is the 2020 Acura RLX, however. Termed a “premium luxury sedan,” the 2020 RLX’s version of premium includes a lot of performance. A standard V-6 produces 310 horsepower, while an available Sport Hybrid ups that to 377. Whoever said a hybrid was merely for fuel efficiency?

Before you base too much of your decision between the sedans on power and performance, however, consider whether you’ll actually notice the improvement that the RLX offers. While it does offer a larger calvary and goes a bit faster, both of these cars are capable of more than what’s legally allowed on public roads. You might be perfectly happy with the slightly smaller 2020 Acura TLX and still never fully max out its capabilities.

Features: RLX Has Some Extras

An Acura RLX versus TLX comparison of features reveals a similar relationship between the two models. For many features, the 2020 Acura TLX is well-equipped but the 2020 Acura RLX offers just a little bit more. The following standard features are a few examples:

The 2020 TLX has sport seats with leatherette trim, while the 2020 RLX has sport seats with perforated Milano premium leather trim.

The 2020 TLX has dual-zone automatic climate control, while the 2020 RLX has tri-zone automatic climate control that’s GPS-linked.

The 2020 TLX has an Acura premium audio system with seven speakers, while the 2020 RLX has an ELS Studio 3D premium audio system with 14 speakers.

As these show, the 2020 Acura RLX offers a little bit more. The 2020 Acura TLX is still a well-equipped luxury sedan that you’ll be perfectly at ease in, though.

Price: TLX Is More Affordable

Not surprising, the 2020 Acura TLX wins in an Acura RLX versus TLX competition that’s price-focused. Because the 2020 Acura RLX offers a bit more in terms of performance and features, it also costs a bit more to purchase.

MSRPs for the 2020 Acura TLXs near Cicero and Oak Park start at $33,000. Initial MSRPs for the 2020 Acura RLX run $54,900. Both of these can be broken down into convenient monthly payments with finance or lease offers.
