Acura Vehicles: Towing Capacity

Acura’s two crossover SUVs both make capable tow vehicles, depending on your specific trailering needs, and they ley you trailer with more comfort and convenience than work and non-luxury vehicles offer. If you have a trailer to haul, here’s what these two Acura vehicles are capable of.

Acura RDX: Convenient Basic Towing

The smaller of Acura’s two crossover SUVs, the Acura RDX provides basic towing capabilities with convenience that few other vehicles offer.

The 2020 Acura RDX’s engine has only four cylinders, but advanced engineering makes this one highly capable four-cylinder. The engine is a turbocharged aluminum-alloy 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and those attributes make it capable of putting out up to 280 pound-feet of torque and 272 horsepower. With specs like that, the engine can pull up to 1,500 pounds.

A towing capacity of 1,500 pounds doesn’t place the 2020 Acura RDX among the heavy-duty haulers, but it’s more than sufficient for many people’s needs. The crossover SUV will pull a jet ski, small boat, four-wheeler, pop-up camper or simple utility trailer without overstraining.

What sets apart the 2020 Acura RDX from other vehicles that can pull is how easy the model makes hauling a trailer. Its smaller size provides easy maneuvering capabilities, which is especially helpful when pulling a trailer through Chicago or backing into a narrow spot.

The luxury-level features that all Acura vehicles come with further enhance towing convenience. In particular, the available Super Handling All-Wheel Drive, Integrated Dynamics System and multi-view rearview camera are especially helpful.

Acura MDX: Powerful Towing Capabilities

The Acura MDX is a larger crossover SUV, and it steps up towing capabilities in a big way. At the same time, the model still offers the same luxurious features that make hauling easy and that you’d expect from an Acura vehicle.

The 2020 Acura MDX is powered by either a 3.5-liter direct injection V6 or a three-motor hybrid system. The former engine delivers a powerful 267 pound-feet and 290 horsepower, while the latter steps down only slightly to 218 pound-feet and 257 horsepower.

Regardless of which engine is onboard, the 2020 MDX is able to haul heavier trailers. It’ll pull trailers upwards of 3,500 pounds when equipped with front-wheel drive, and towing capacity goes up to 5,00 pounds when Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive is installed. Both of those capacities are more than enough for most general towing needs.

Of course, Acura’s Integrated Dynamics System and multi-view rear camera are also offered on this larger model, along with many other helpful features.
